Interaction warnings
Ibuprofen + lithium
highIbuprofen and other NSAIDs inhibit renal prostaglandin synthesis, reducing renal blood flow and lithium clearance. This raises serum lithium by approximately 15 to 60 percent, with multiple published cases of clinically significant lithium toxicity after NSAID introduction.
Ibuprofen + ginkgo
highIbuprofen inhibits platelet aggregation through COX-1, and Ginkgo biloba inhibits platelet-activating factor through ginkgolide B. Combining them increases the risk of bleeding, with case reports of fatal intracerebral hemorrhage.
Ibuprofen + alcohol
highAlcohol and ibuprofen each independently irritate the gastric lining and impair platelet function, and together they significantly increase the risk of gastrointestinal bleeding, ulcers, and acute kidney injury. Chronic combined use also accelerates kidney damage through dehydration and reduced renal perfusion.
